I also curated a monthly BS4 Makers Market, a yearly Harvest Festival, the BS4 Arts Trail and other events which I share here.

Make A Mat Or Bowl From Plants

Join forager and artisan maker Rachel Lambert to learn an ancient technique of coiled basketry using plants and string! This technique can be seen across the world in various forms and has been kept alive in the British Isles by traditional makers in Shetland, as well as makers like Rachel who’ve taken to it more recently. It is on the red-list of crafts at risk of going extinct here in the UK.

This lovely workshop includes:
  • A short walk to look at local grasses that could be used
  • Introduction to a simple weaving and stitching technique using foraged grasses and natural jute string
  • Learn the ancient craft of making with grasses with tips and guidance
  • Make a pot, mat or bowl in a day
  • See examples of vessels and mats you can make, such as; daffodil project
