Bring nature to your breakfast table with this ceramic milk jug, A handmade earthenware milk jug by Bristol ceramicist Wendy Calder, featuring a two-tone glaze with a hand-carved botanical design — choose from cow parsley, allium, or dandelion. Each jug is thrown on the wheel, the base turned when leather-hard, then a pulled handle attached; white slip is applied and the sgraffito technique used to reveal the design, before the jug is bisque fired to 1000°C and finished with a transparent glaze fired to 1160°C for a lovely toasty red finish.
Holding around 350ml and measuring 9.5cm high by 8cm wide, it’s the perfect size for milk with your morning coffee or gravy alongside a Sunday roast — customers regularly tell me it’s the best-pouring jug they’ve owned. Dishwasher and microwave safe, though hand washing is recommended to keep the glaze looking its best over time. Pairs beautifully with the matching sgraffito coffee mugs.

I gave this jug to my daughter who was desperate for it having been given a dandelion mug in the same range, and fallen in love with this beautiful ceramic range with its wonderful rich rust and white colouring and delicate hedgerow motifs. She is planning to collect more items. The absolutely wonderful butter dish might be next purchase.

Love these jugs so much I have all 3! They are very pretty and a perfect size for milk, gravy, custard. I’ve had lots of comments from guests asking where I bought them. Make a lovely present too.

I am the delighted owner of two milk jugs. They are ideal not only for milk, but for custard and gravy as they pour so well. Oh and I forgot cream!
