These violets are the newest addition to my every growing collection of beautiful wooden handpainted flowers by Maggie of Natty Deco. Each one is laser cut from birchwood and painted by hand on both sides. Violets are the birth flower for February.
The violet’s low-growing and “shy” appearance led to its association with bashfulness and humility. It’s where the phrase “shrinking violet” comes from. In the Victorian language of flowers (floriography), a gift of violets was a declaration of loyalty and devotion to show someone you would always be faithful and true. They are a symbol of long-lasting affection and remembrance.
Violets were the original flower associated with Valentine’s Day before roses took over. Forever linked with the month through the common ‘Roses are red, violets are blue’ Valentine’s phrase. Folklore says that St Valentine himself used crushed violets to make ink and write messages of love to friends.
You can team these with a range of other wooden flowers and seedheads.
